Marley Cooling Tower Company 3 • June 25, 1986
will be treated and discharged to a nearby canal under the NPDES
permit.
Surface Water Drainage
Construction will start this summer on a 6 inch high berm to
surround the entire north yard. A 3 inch high curb can handle
the runoff resulting from a 24-hour storm, according to Marley' s
consultants.
This project will be completed before the next rainy season.
Historically there was contaminated runoff water in the south
yard but currently there is no treated wood stored in this area
of the facility. MCTC will do sampling of surface waters in the
south yard during the next rainy season to verify that the water
is nonhazardous.
Other Discussion
Monitoring wells M16 and MW213 are going to be used as extraction
wells for makeup water for the wood treating process. MW6 will
be pumped twice a day for 45 minutes each time (6 gal./min. ) and
MW213 can be pumped continuously (15 gal./min. ) A 20, 000 gallon
tank has been placed in the tank area to hold this water.
Bob Fujii requested a copy of the ion exchange bench test
results. Marvin Young stated that EPA requires that all
receptors and pathways must be considered during the soil and
groundwater investigation.
A fact sheet will be mailed to everyone on the Community
Relations Plan mailing list. Marge Rouch of DHS and Laurie
Cotulla of the San Joaquin Local Health District will be listed
on the fact sheet as contact persons. If there is public
interest generated by the fact sheet, a public meeting will be
held.
Richard Birdsall stated that the settlement agreement does not
need to be rewritten; it can be amended to reflect updated time
schedules. All original signatories will have to sign an
amendment to update the schedule. This can be done toward the
end of the feasibility study, as plans are made for actual
implementation of the selected alternative.
Conclusion
MCTC distributed a "Current Status and Proposed Work Plan for
