k4 KLEINFELDER
September 7, 1991
File: 24-2009-01
Mr. David Bates
Marley Cooling Tower
P.O. Box 2912
Mission, KS 66201
SUBJECT: Lysimeter Sampling
Marley Cooling Tower--Stockton,California
Dear Mr. Bates:
Enclosed are the revised results of the July 25, 1991, lysimeter sampling event. Twelve
samples were collected by Meinfelder and were submitted for analysts of copper, arsenic,
trivalent chromium, hexavalent chromium, total chromium, and nitrates. Chris Cuzzi and
Brian Lilly of Layne Environmental were present during the field sampling. The samples
were delivered under chain-of-custody to Chemwest Analytical Laboratory to Sacramento
for analysis.
Results of the analyses, along with the appropriate reporting limits, are presented on the
laboratory data sheets attached. Four method blank spiked samples were analyzed as part
of the laboratory QA/QC program. The hexavalent chromium analytical results provided
by the laboratory on August 16, 1991, were in error due to a deletion of sample 67838
results and a translation of the remaining analytical results. The corrected analytical data
sheet is enclosed with this data package. The nitrate analysis was also not completed due
to laboratory equipment failure and matrix interference during the analysis. It is our
understanding that the nitrate analysis will not be available because the samples exceeded
the standard holding times. Table 1 presents the lysimeter stations, sample identification,
and the field observations for this sampling event.
It is Kleinfelder's understanding that Layne Environmental, an affiliate of Marley Cooling
Tower Company, will assume the lysimeter sampling at the Marley facility in Stockton.
If we can assist you in the future by providing environmental or engineering services, please
do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
KLEYWELDE C.
Alex M.
