STATE OF CALIFORNIA-Environmental ProtectAency • PETE WILSON, Govemor
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3449 Routier Road,Suite A - t..al 1 SERVICE _--
Sacramento,CA 95827-3098
PHONE:(916)255-3000 93) JUL 31 PM 2: 03 •
FAX:(916)255-3015 awr
26 July 1995
Mr. David W. Bates
Chief Production Engineer
Marley Cooling Tower Company
5800 Foxridge Drive
Mission, Kansas 66201
TOXICITY IDENTIFICATION EVALUATION (TIE) WORK PLAN
We have reviewed the Toxicity Identification Evaluation (TIE) Work Plan for the Marley Cooling
Tower Company, Stockton facility, submitted 3 July 1995, prepared by S. R. Hansen and Associates.
The proposal for studying the toxicity of the effluent from the Marley water treatment plant is well
prepared and meets the requirements of Section B, item 4, of NPDES Permit No. CA0081787.
We encourage Marley to proceed with the Work Plan proposed and recommend Marley proceed
quickly with any samples that demonstrate acute toxicity. A Phase 1 study should be taken as far as
possible with these samples concurrent with the testing to determine if the toxicity tends to degrade in
the Marley effluent.
We appreciate your cooperation to reduce or eliminate toxicity from the treatment plant discharge.
CORI CONDON
Associate Engineering Geologist
cc: Duncan Austin, Department of Toxic Substances Control, Sacramento
Gary Vargas, Dudek & Associates, Encinitas
Harlin Knoll, Environmental Health, San Joaquin Co.
Howard Rinne, Marley Cooling Tower Company, Stockton
