situation , as specified under 40 CFR 264.97. The data are not
sufficient to fully define the horizontal extent of the
contamination , nor to provide details on the vertical potential
for contaminant migration. Marley generally agrees with the
Board' s comments regarding ground water monitoring and ground
water improvement. Therefore , Marley proposes to undertake a
detection monitoring survey , as specified by 40 CFR 264.98. As
noted above, such a detection survey will be conducted in
cognizance of the geochemical attenuation which is effective in
a
retarding migration of metallic contaminants.
i
Insufficient time was available to complete a thorough conceptual
plan for the proposed ground water monitoring program in time for
j this submittal . We propose to submit such plan within 30 days
f (or May 13 , 1984 ). Such a ground water monitoring plan will
include , but may not be limited to, data on background water
quality from samples collected in wells to be constructed
upgradient of the facility , and definition of the piezometric
surface of the shallow and regional aquifers. Data on the
t vertical and horizontal variability of ground water quality will
} be collected by use of existing monitor wells , the four Marley
L deeper water supply wells , and new monitor wells to be
constructed at the site.
i
Two wells in the vicinity of well #6 will be completed solely
{ within the permeable sections tapped by the existing monitor well
#6. In addition , a third monitor well will be cemented off
13
