Mr. Marty Hartzell
Re: Former American Forest Facility
2801 West Lane
Stockton,California
URS Project No.41-15884019.00
Dear Mr. Hartzell:
Pursuant to our conversation on November 15, 2001, I have prepared copies of the following three documents
for your reference:
• Closure Request Report prepared by URS and dated July 31, 2001;
• Fate and Transport excerpt from Draft Amended Request for Closure prepared by Dames&Moore and dated .
August 1, 1994;and
• Risk Assessment excerpt from Feasibility Study/Remedial Action Plan prepared by Dames &Moore and
.dated July 13, 1988.
A.copy of the Closure Request Report was issued to you on November 28, 2001. Attached please find copies
of the two excerpt documents.
Tables 5 and 6 of the 2001 Closure Request Report summarize analytical results for non-diesel compounds in
` groundwater samples collected at the site. As the tables indicate, the only non-diesel contaminant of concern
documented at the site is 1,2-dichloroethane,which has only been detected more than once at two of the seven
wells at the site. This indicates an impact that is limited in areal extent, and in concentration.Based on this data,
I and other criteria including the low-level impacts of diesel and the lack of a receptor, closure for the site has been
requested.
fAn additional groundwater monitoring event will be conducted during December 2001. Analytical parameters
will include diesel using EPA Method 8015M, and organic compounds using Method 8260B.
Finally, in order to maintain communication between all participating parties, you will receive a copy of any
future reports which are issued to the San Joaquin PHS/FHD.
k
If you have questions regarding this project, please contact me at (9I6) 679-2000.
4 Sincerely,
i URS
ack Ke
i Senior eologist
c: Mr. Sam Savig, San Joaquin PHSIEHD
William Bergvall, attorney for AFPC
uas CorporafSn
Crown Corporate Center
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 300
Sacramento,CA 95833
TeL 916.679.2000 K:1WINctters11,120301.doc
Fax: 916.679.2900
