l
PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTYII
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION =`
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202 c'FORa
209/468-3420 FILE
C
BERNIE SLOOP
AMERICAN MOULDING & MILLWORK WL 2 7 IM
PO BOX 8220
STOCKTON CA 95208
RE: 2801 West Lane, Stockton, CA Site: 18822
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has
reviewed the investigative work done at this site relating to a leaking Underground Storage Tank
(UST). A 10,000 gallon diesel UST was removed undeIr inspection of PHS/EHD on August 27,
1993. Extensive excavation of soil below this UST occurred after UST removal. Contaminated
soil was removed and stockpiled separately on site. Soil stockpile and excavation soil samples
were collected and analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon as diesel (TPHd) and Benzene,
Toluene, Xylene and Ethylbenzene (BTEX). Results of the analysis evidenced non detectable
TPHd and BTEX at 45 feet below surface grade (bsg). Some of the soil stockpiles were
contaminated with TPHd and BTEX. "Clean" soils were allowed to be returned to the
excavation.
Since the time of the above contaminated soil investigation/remediation in 1994, groundwater
depth measurements at the property indicate a current groundwater level of approximately 47.5
feet bsg. The groundwater level was approximately 60I feet bsg in 1994. The increase of the
groundwater level is of concern to PHS/EHD becaLse of the possibility of groundwater
contacting contaminated soil areas.
Due to mitigation efforts to remove contaminants from the soil after the UST removal and non-
detectable TPHd and BTEX in soil samples collected at 45 feet bsg, this site appears to be a
candidate for closure. Prior to consideration for closure it will be necessary to confirm non
detection of TPHd and BTEX in soil and groundwater at the groundwater/soil interface and
below 45 feet bsg. A closure report including all pertinent information regarding investigation
work done at this site (including disposition of cod taminated soil stockpiles and related
documents) is required by PHS/EHD.
If you have questions regarding this letter contact Carol Oz, Senior REHS, at(209)468-3440.
Donna Heran, Director
Environmental Health Division
Carol Oz, Senior REHS lvlargaret Lagorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
I
cc: Mark List-CVRWQCB
Bob Marty-AGE
A Division of San Joaquin County I Icalch Care Services
