Weber Avenue,'Third Floor
Stockton, California 95202
Re: Review Status
Closure Request Addendum Report
1,2-DCA Investigation
Former American Forest Products Facility
2801 West Lane,Stockton,California
i
URS Proiect No. 17322736
Dear Mr.Wong:
The purpose of this .letter is to request a response regarding the status of the review by SanJoaquin
County of the above-referenced closure request addendum report. That report was submitted in July
2002 following additional data collection downgradient of existing monitoring wells. The purpose of
the investigation was to resolve a data gap with respect to 1,2-DCA, which has prevented site closure
from being approved.
Site closure was requested in 2001 by URS,based on data presented in our report titled Closure Request
Report, Former American Forest Products 'Stockton Facility, and dated.July 31, 2001. That report
compared site characteristics to California Regional Water Quality Control Board(RWQCB)criteria for
designation as a "low risk groundwater site". Discussions with the RWQCB on February 14, 2002,
indicated that the site-met the criteria for closure, with the exception of a data gap for the vertical and
horizontal extent of 1,2-DCA in groundwater at locations downgradient from existing monitoring wells,
and an update of water supply wells within 2000 feet of the plume. .
The addendum report concluded that the plume is of limited extent, decreases in concentration with
depth, and is not migrating downgradient. Based on an updated map of drinking water supply wells in
the site vicinity, there are no wells with a potential to be affected by the plume, which is confined to an
area within a radius of approximately 60 feet of the former source.
t
URS Group, Inc.
Crown Corporate Center
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive,Suite 300
Sacramento,CA 95833
Tel:916.679.2000
Fax:916.679.2900 K:122736V020603.Joc
Eq
