w4 • <br /> ♦1 <br /> 7.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> T Equipment PPE for site personnel includes <br /> The minimum Personal Protective Equipme (PPE) <br /> t • Hardhat <br /> • Safety glasses with side shields (or impact resistant goggles) <br /> • Steel-toed boots or Chemical-resistant steel-toed boots <br /> • Ear protection in vicinity of noisy equipment <br /> • Work gloves and/or chemical-resistant gloves <br /> • Traffic safety vest in the vicinity of heavy equipment <br /> As the various monitoring Action Levels are reached, additional PPE is required Section <br /> 10 provides the description of the incremental PPE requirements relative to specific <br /> Action Levels, as well as the specific kinds of PPE to be use Information regarding <br /> Dames & Moore's PPE Program, and the use, care and limitations of PPE is located in <br /> D&M's Health and Safety Program Manuel in Section HS 170 <br /> 7 1 LIMITATIONS OF PROTECTIVE CLOTHING <br /> The protective equipment ensembles selected for this project are anticipated to provide <br /> protection against the types and concentrations of hazardous materials that may <br /> potentially be encountered during field operations However, no protective garment, <br /> glove or boot 1s resistant to all chemicals at any concentration, in fact, chemicals may <br /> continue to permeate or degrade a garment even after the source of the contamination is <br /> removed <br /> In order to obtain optimum usage from PPE, the fallowing procedures are to be followed <br /> by all Dames & Moore personnel <br /> • When using disposable coveralls, don a clean, new garment after each rest break or at <br /> the beginning of each shift <br /> Inspect all clothing, gloves and boots both prior to and during use for <br /> Imperfect seams <br /> - Non-uniform coatings <br /> Tears <br /> Poorly functioning closures <br /> • Inspect reusable garments, boots and gloves both prior to and during use for <br /> Visible signs of chemical permeation such as swelling, discoloration, stiffness <br /> or brittleness <br /> - Cracks or any signs of puncture or abrasion <br /> Any reusable garments exhibiting any such characteristics will be discarded <br /> AMFOREST 2 1 7 19 <br />
