1 <br /> �j 12.0 EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN <br /> ' <br /> It is Dames & Moore's policy to evacuate personnel from areas involved in hazardous <br /> material emergencies and to summon outside assistance from agencies with personnel <br /> trained to respond to the specific emergency This section outlines the procedures to be <br /> followed by Dames & Moore personnel in the event of a site emergency These <br /> 1 procedures are to be reviewed during the onsite safety briefings conducted by the SSO <br /> In the event of a fire or medical emergency, the emergency numbers identified in Section <br />' 10 (page 1) can be called for assistance <br /> 12 1 PLACES OF REFUGE <br /> In the event of a site emergency requinng evacuation, all personnel will evacuate to a <br /> pre-designated area located a safe distance from any health or safety hazard (typically the <br /> I Dames & Moore site office, unless conditions dictate otherwise) and safely away from <br /> the area of influence The SSO will designate a primary assembly area prior to the start of <br /> work each day The daily pre-designated assembly area may have to be re-designated by <br /> the SSO in the event of an emergency where the area of influence affects the primary <br /> assembly area Once assembled, the SSO shall take a head count The SSO will evaluate <br /> the assembly area to determine if the area is outside the influence of the situation, if not, <br /> the SSO will redirect the group to a new assembly area where a new head count will be <br /> taken <br /> During any site evacuation, all employees shall be instructed to observe wind direction <br /> indicators During evacuation, employees will be instructed to travel upwind or <br /> crosswind of the area of influence The SSO will provide specific evacuation instructions, <br /> via the site emergency radio if necessary, to site personnel regarding the actual site <br /> conditions <br /> 12 2 FIRE <br /> To protect against fires, the following special precautions must be taken <br /> • Before any flame-producing devices, 1 e , cutting torches or welding irons, are <br /> used in the exclusion zone, the SSO must be contacted In some cases, the <br /> client may require to be contacted as well to determine if a hot work permit is <br /> required A detailed inspection of the work area will be conducted to <br /> determine if potential fire sources exist The fire sources must be removed to <br /> ' at least 35 feet away before work can commence <br /> • Two full 10 pound ABC fire extinguishers must be located at the work area <br /> ' when cutting/welding is being conducted, and a fire watch will be posted <br /> 1 AMFOREST 21 7 33 <br />
