REHS, Program Manager
Mr. Steven Shih, REHS
1868 Hazelton Ave.
Stockton, CA 95205
PROJECT: Mr. & Mrs. Mike and Deana Thornton
7125 East Sedan Avenue
Manteca, CA 95337
7095 East Sedan Avenue(Address for Proposed Second Unit Dwelling Residence)
7125 East Sedan Avenue(Address for Existing Residence)
Assessor's Parcel Number: 226-100-18; 1.37 Acres; SR0082092
SUBJECT: Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Studies Addendum
INTRODUCTION
Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Studies were required by the EHD for the second unit dwelling
project referenced above and were completed by Chesney Consulting on May 15, 2020. The
Studies concluded that the "resultant average concentration of nitrate-nitrogen in the recharge
water"as determined by the Hantzsche-Finnemore equation, has the potential concentration of
18.8 ppm nitrate-nitrogen, 8.8 ppm over the nitrate-nitrogen Maximum Contaminant Level
(MCL)of 10 ppm for drinking water.
The subject Parcel is surrounded by 18.17 acres of a 13 y/o almond orchard that is owned and
farmed by Mr. Thornton. Mr. Thornton intends to continue farming this acreage indefinitely.
The almond trees that occupied the area where the Thornton's are building their second unit
dwelling is approximately one-third of the total acreage (1.37 ac), or 0.456 acres. The trees were
removed over a year ago.
This document compares the nitrogen loading between the complete residential development of
the subject Parcel acreage versus if the acreage was entirely planted in almond trees.
P.O.Box 3794 0 Turlock,CA 95381 ❑ 209.402.1652 ❑ ddchesney.Pa charter.net
