" The review and this response applies only to the
pesticide contamination at the site. The underground tank portion of the cleanup
is the responsibility of our Underground Tanks Unit, and the assigned staffperson
is Elizabeth Thayer, who can be reached at (916) 361-5726.
The organochlorine compounds of concern here are essentially insoluble in water,
and have a very low mobility in soil . Moreover, the boring and well logs show
that the underlying sails to a minimum of 25 feet are predominantly clays with
only minor amounts of sand and silt. ,
Based on these factors and our review of both the preliminary investigation and
closure reports, we believe that pesticide contamination at the site has been
reduced to levels which will not pose a threat to either surface or ground
waters.
Therefore, the Regional Board Agricultural Regulatory Unit does not anticipate
further involvement with this site. Also, from our perspective, the monitoring
wells are no longer needed and may be properly abandoned, as you request. You
must check with Elizabeth Thayer, however, before proceeding with this. All
city, county, and state permitting and notification requirements should be met
before the wells are closed.
Since the site involved soils with hazardous levels of pesticides, a copy of the
report should be submitted to the Department of Health Services for their review.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding these matters, please contact me
at (916) 35T93. 31o2
CHRISTINE M.
