These items are submitted as a first step to
provide destruction of two on-site wells, MW-1 and VW-2.1 Duel to proposed tank replacement
activities at the subject site, these two wells must be abandoned because of the potential
encroachment from the new tanks, see attached figure.
Destruction Procedure
i
Monitoring wells MW-1 'and VW-2 have been constructed of 2',inch diameter PVC casing to
depths of about 60 and 50 feet below grade, respectively. -MW-1 has a screened interval from
about 15 to 60 feet and VW-2 from about 15 to 50 feet. 'A portland cement grout seal exists
from surface to about 12 feet below grade. Well boreholes were about 8-inches in diameter and
a gravel pack of#3 sand was used.
ik
Thrifty proposes to abandon these wells in place using pressure grout techniques. A licensed
C-57 Contractor will be used to perform the work. In generaLk the wells will be filled with
portland cement grout to within 15 feet of the surface. Since new tanks will be placed in the
area of wells to a depth of at least 15 feet, bentonite hole plug will be used as a temporary seal
from the surface to 15 feet. During abandonment, the contractor will verify anticipated volume
of grout to and actual grout and bentonite used in the field.`
QO
10000 Lakewood Boulevard, Downey, CA 90240-4,w082 •(310) 923-9876
i ij
