Multi-Phase Extraction Pilot Test Report&Remedial Design i
Thrifty Station No 171 Page 2
Stockton,California November 3D,2614
A portable VOC meter was used to measure undifferentiated hydrocarbon concentrations of
extracted vapor in the field. VOC readings were taken and recorded from influent and effluent
vapor streams using designated, inline sample ports. Note the calculation to determine the
contaminant mass removal is a function of influent vapor concentration and air flow, and is
calculated as follows:
1C min ftj 86 lbs/lb mol
test hrs. x -- x 60 ----- x ----- x = lbs
106 hr min 379 fe/lb mol
Where
IC=influent concentration, analytical results of TPAg averaged between test
beginning and end samples in parts per million(ppm)
During the first 24 hours multi-phase extraction was performed from only well EW-5S.An electric
downhole pump was Iowered into the well with discharge tubing, the pump inlet was set
approximately two to three feet from the bottom of the well, and a flexible hose was inserted
through a sealed cap in the top of the well for vapor extraction.
System operational parameters were measured and recorded every hour. Groundwater monitoring
data, including vacuum response and depth to water, was collected from wells EW-5D, T13-7,
TB-IIV, TB-11 W, and VW-5 and recorded hourly. Influent vapor samples were collected after
one hour of extraction, and again after 24 hours of extraction, prior to changing extraction wells.
Laboratory analytical data of vapor samples in included as Table 5.
During the second 24 hour period multi-phase extraction was performed at only well EW-SD.
System operational data and monitoring well data was collected from wells EW-5S,TB-7,TB-11 V,
TB-11 W,and VW-5 and recorded hourly. Influent vapor samples were collected after one hour of
extraction, and again after 24 hours of extraction.
During the third 24 hour period multi-phase extraction was performed from well TB-7. System
operational data and monitoring well data was collected from wells EW-5S, EW-51), TB-11V,
TB-11W, TB-12V, TB-12W, and VW-5 and recorded hourly. Influent vapor samples were
collected after one hour of extraction, and again after 24 hours of extraction.
For the final 48 hours of the test, multi-phase extraction was performed from three wells
simultaneously, EW-5S, EW-51), and TB-7. System operational data and monitoring well data
was collected and recorded from wells TB-6, TB-9V, TB-9W, TB-11V, TB-11W, TB-12V,
TB-12W, and VW-5 after beginning multi-phase extraction from three wells, after three hours of
environ strategy consultants, inc.
