Any additional information that might affect the response personnel (for example, <br />severity of the fire or materials at risk in the immediate area). <br />• Remain on the phone, if safe to do so, to verify the information given to the Emergency <br />Dispatcher and receive instructions. <br />• Notify their supervisor. <br />• Isolate the emergency area. <br />• Give emergency aid to the injured, if safe to do so. <br />The 1C (from the Fire Department) is responsible for controlling the incident as described in <br />Section 4.1. <br />7.4 Earthquakes <br />During a significant earthquake, employees follow the Self-help Plan safety and evacuation <br />guidelines. After the shaking stops, and if safe to do so, Facility employees: <br />• Call the Emergency Dispatcher (at 911) to report emergencies and to request <br />emergency assistance. <br />• Inspect the Facility to verify that there has been no damage to tanks, piping systems, <br />containers, or storage areas. Cordon off the area to control access. <br />• Stop any release at its source and contain any released materi <br />al. <br />• Assist in the cleanup of any released chemicals or other potentially harmful materials, <br />as directed in Section 8. <br />7.5 Power Outages <br />Routine waste management operations at the Facilities are conducted during daylight hours, <br />Monday through Thursday, except holidays. It is not anticipated that a power outage would <br />cause an emergency at a Facility, however, emergency power generators are available 24 hours <br />per day through Site 300's Maintenance Machine Shop (extension 3-5247) in Building 875. <br />In addition, agasoline-powered, port <br />able generator and three floodlights are maintained in th;:. <br />RHWM's release response trailer. This equipment is available for use during non -routine wast;: <br />management operations or emergency situations. Employees have access to flashlights to <br />monitor the Facility during a power outage. <br />7.6 Equipment Failure <br />Procedures have been developed to manage situations in which equipment failure may cause a <br />release of hazardous or toxic waste or materials. Equipment failure includes forklift failure <br />during transfer operations and treatment unit failure (burn cage, burn pan, associated equipment). <br />Malfunctions are addressed in the Facility safety procedure. <br />LLNL Site 300 Contingency Plan 22 January 2019 <br />
