When an immediate rescue is initiated, designate a decontamination corridor, and accomplish
decontamination in the emergency decontamination area.
9.3 Equipment and Material
At every incident in which an entry will be made into a chemical spill area and there is the
possiblility of contact with the product, Fire Department personnel are to lay out a charged hose
lI
ne.
• Tarps and/or pools are used to collect runoff from decontamination activities.
• Non -disposable items are decontaminated.
• Disposable items are handled as hazardous waste unless analysis indicates otherwise.
• Rinse water generated from decontamination operations is managed as hazardous
waste, pending analysis.
• Analytical results from swipes and rinse water are used to determine the presence of
hazardous material residue and to verify whether decontamination procedures are
complete.
• Spill kits and PPE are restocked.
10.0 EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT
This section briefly descri
bes the emergency equipment located at Site 300 and equipment that is
available to be deployed to Site 300 from LLNL's Livermore Site. This equipment includes
internal and external communication systems, fire suppression system, water supply, emergency
response and release control equipment, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), emergency
lighting systems, and decontamination equipment. Appendix E lists pertinent emergency
equipment and the location(s), physical description, and a statement of capabilities for each item.
10.1 Internal Communication Systems
Telephones are located at key locations at each Facility. The locations are shown in Appendices
I-1, I-2, and I-3. A telephone is not available at the 0-$29 Facility, personnel shall use a radio to
call for assistance. During emergencies, the telephone can be used to notify the Fire Department
or Site Management, request any needed resource and assistance, or initiate evacuation
procedures.
In addition, RHWM Operations personnel wear radio pagers. During an
emergency, they can all
be paged as a group. Each pager will show a code specific to the group and the telephone
extension to call for instructions. The Facility Representative, his or her alternate, the RHWM
receptionist, or RHWM management can activate this system.
EWSF and EWTF personnel use trunked radios and wear radio pagers. During an
emergency, an
announcement can be made simultaneously over the radio system.
10.2 External Communication System
The Site 300 Emergency Communications System consists of telephone, radios, an
administrative paging system, manual and automatic alarm systems, and messengers.
LLNL Site 300 Contingency Plan 24 January 2019
