10.5 Site 300 IF and Rescue Equipment <br />The major Site 300 fire response equipment includes the following: <br />• A11 Fire Department vehicles are equipped with radios on LLNL channels, the Alameda <br />County Mutual Aid channels, and State Mutual Aid channel as well as the CALCORD <br />Channel. <br />• Fire Truck. <br />• Fire Truck, Heavy Grass Rig, 4x4 <br />• Ambulance. <br />• Service Utility with Cab, 4x4. <br />10.6 Response Vehicles and Heavy Equipment <br />A variety of heavy equipment located at Building 875 is available during an emergency. This <br />equipment includes, but is not limited to, compressors, cranes, cutting torches, forklifts, <br />generators, pumps, bulldozers, etc. <br />All LLNTT <br />emergency equipment is maintained on a regular basis to ensure that itis operational <br />at all times. The water trucks are kept full of fuel and water. Based on the recommended factory <br />schedule, preventative maintenance checks are performed by the Fleet Management maintenance <br />crew. <br />10.7 Site Safety Equipment <br />Eyewash stations, showers, and fire extinguishers are located at all Facilities. <br />10.8 Personal Protective Equipment <br />The level of PPE assign <br />ed to a Facility is based upon the activity at the Facility. Workers must <br />wear solid -toe safety shoes at all times when working in waste management operational areas. <br />Operators handling waste containers must wear coveralls or their equivalent at all times. Leather, <br />acid, base, or solvent -resistant gloves are worn as appropriate for the waste handling activity. <br />When handling hazardous waste, workers must wear face shields, goggles, safety glasses, or <br />other facial and eye protection as needed in accordance with the FSPs and IWSs. <br />PPE for responding to hazardous (chemical) waste releases is located in the emergency spill kit <br />located near Building 883 CSA. PPE appropriate to Facility activity is described in Appendix E, <br />including the location, capabilities, description, and inspection frequency. <br />Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units are available for use by qualified personnel <br />during initial release/emergency response actions. SCBA units are available from the Fire <br />Department response vehicles, including the Special Services Unit hazardous materials <br />emergency truck. <br />Following evaluation of hazards by the appropriate ES&H Team Health and Safety discipline, <br />tU <br />e use ofair-purifying respirators maybe authorized during release:`emergency responses. With <br />this authorization, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health- (NIOSH-) approved, <br />full -face piece, air -purifying respirators equipped with combination acid gas/organic vapor/high- <br />efficiency particulate air filter cartridges are available from supplies.
