N Spare the Air Employer Partner Fact Sheet Spare the Air is a voluntary program that encourages Valley residents to reduce air pollution Through the Employer Partner program, your employees can make an immediate impact on our air quality through simple actions like carpooling or using other commute alternative, postponing the use of gasoline-powered lawn equipment and reducing the use of aerosol products Spare the Air targets only a few days per summer winch are forecast to have unhealthful air pollution levels With everyone's participation in the Spare the Air program, we can reduce the number and seventy of these very smoggy days There are three things participating employers are asked to do • Educate employees on the program activities using informational materials provided by the Air District • Motivate them to participate on Spare the Air days via E-mail, posters and work site announcements The company will be notified by fax from the Air District the day before a Spare the Air day • Congratulate participants by using free incentive items provided by the Air District The program can be as simple or creative as the company wants. In addition to better air quality for all Valley residents, the program has benefits for your company and employees. • Benefits to your company: • Promotion of positive corporate image on site, as well as recognition through Air District publications and programs • Possibility of reduced health risks to employees and their families by decreasing smog levels,resulting in reduced health care costs for the company • Employees who participate in carpools have lower absenteeism and tardiness rates • Emission reductions on dust a few days can help toward attaining the federal ozone standard. Attainment status and fixture classification designations dictate the degree which additional control measures must be inplemented It is in the Valley's best interest to improve air quality through voluntary programs, whenever possible Benefits to your employees: • Improved employee morale Promotions and special events add variety and encourage camaraderie at the work site • Program provides leadership and team building opportunities to staff • The program promotes pride and gives individuals a sense of empowerment by allowing them to make an immediate impact on a mayor quality of life challenge • Possibility of reduced insurance fees, gasoline and vehicle maintenance costs for anyone participating in a carpool or other alternative commute option Join over 500 Valley employers who have already signed up for the program.
