4.1.7 _ _ . (see Site Record, Appendix 2.7)
This newly recorded site consists of a midden soil containing sparse amounts of shell. No
artifacts were observed during the recording effort.
4.1.8 (see Site Record, Appendix 2.8)
This newly recorded site consists of a remnant of midden containing shell and bone fragments,
and debitage. A good portion of this site has been destroyed by leveling activities (probably
back in the 1960s). CSUS students, visiting this location in the spring of 1971 and referencing
it as TL-6, collected one adesitic pestle/maul, one core, 6 flakes of obsidian, jasper, chert, and
basalt, and 3 baked clay fragments.
4.1.9 .. (see Site Record, Appendix 2.9)
This site consists of a small mound of midden soil containing shell and bone fragments as well
as obsidian and chert flakes, only evident after shovel testing through 3 mm mesh screen.
Although this site is newly recorded, it may in fact be one of the sites initially recorded back
in 1929.
However, it is doubtful that a resolution will ever be reached as to which site record corresponds
to which location.
4.2 SITES NOT RELOCATED
Locations for four of the archaeological sites recorded in the early years are problematical.
These sites (CA-SJO- were recently subsumed along with a very large area
between the Tracy Lakes and the Mokelumne River, into what is referred to as the "Lake Site"
(Ananian and Rice 1991). These resources and their whereabouts are discussed below.
4.2.1 CA-SJO-
Confusion over me location of this site stems from a discrepancy in the original site record.
Latitude/longitude coordinates would place this site about 'A mile north northwest of
24
