5.0 POTENTIAL IMPACTS TO CULTURAL RESOURCES
Pursuant to Section 21083.2 of the CEQA, the State requires that the lead agency determine
whether a proposed project may have a significant effect on archaeological resources (State of
California, Office of Planning and Research 1992:21). If the lead agency determines that the
project may have a significant effect on unique archaeological resources, the environmental
impact report shall address the issue of those resources. If it can be demonstrated that a project
will rause damage to a unique archaeological resource, the lead agency may require reasonable
efforts to be made to permit any or all of these resources to be preserved in place or left in an
undisturbed state. To the extent that unique archaeological resources are not preserved in place
or not left in an undisturbed state, mitigation measures shall be required.
The Buckeye Ranch Project involves the development of residential lots, a golf course, an
equestrian trail, lake enhancement, and a set-aside nature preserve. Map 12 presents the details
of the project plan. The effect of these proposed facilities are examined with CEQA regulations
in mind. The archaeological resources identified during the present field investigation are
considered below in relation to the plans specified for the Buckeye Ranch Project as delineated
on Map 13.
5.1 RESIDENTIAL Il1PACTS
The lot shape cuts into the
northeast portion of the site.
