pH Testing
The pH of the soil samples ranged from a very strongly acidic 4.6 to a mildly alkaline 7.7. The
mean pH value of the samples was a slightly acidic 6.4 with a variance of 0.71 and a standard
deviation of 0.84. For samples taken in the vicinity o, Lot 12, the mean pH value was 5.8,
medium acidic.
Carbonates Testing
There were nineteen positive carbonates reactions noted. None were from off-site samples.
Munsell Color Chart Classification
All twenty-four soil samples were color classified by use of the Munsell Color charts. Readings
were from air dried samples and are listed in Table 1. The numerical chart values equate to the
following soil calor names, all on the 10YR Hue chart.
Munsell Value Color
5.4 Yellowish Brown
5.5/3, 5/3 Brown
5/2 Grayish Brown
4.5/4, 4/4, 4/5 Dark Yellowish Brown
4.5/3 Brown
4.5/2 Grayish Brown
4/3, 3.5/3, 3/3 Dark Brown
3.5/2, 3/2.5, 3/2 Very Dark Grayish Brown
Table 1 below lists the soils analysis data for each of the eighty samples. The phosphate value
is thePO4 rating; the carbonate reaction is under the CO3 heading. Note that all samples were
taken at a depth of 10 centimeters.
