After viewing
the site, not one but two round house depressions, surrounded by midden soil in close
proximity of one another, were observed and neither were mentioned in the report. I am
concerned that these sites were missed and about the possibility that other sites may
have also been missed.
Due to the sensitivity of the Buckeye Ranch site, a complete and accurate
archaeological field report is mandatory. The mitigation measures for this site should be
decided by the local Native American community; however, without an accurate report, I
do not feel that mitigation measures can be submitted.
It is my suggestion that a supplementary report be done by an archaeologist who is
acceptable to the local Native American community. The County should contact the
Native American groups on the enclosed list. They will review and submit mitigation
measures for this site. The order of the names on the enclosed list is not intended to
indicate preference.
If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact me.
ncerely,
Debb ilas-Treadway
Staff Analyst
