Two separate observations <br /> of adult red-tailed hawks with fledglings support this assertion . <br /> Red-tailed hawks nest in woodland and open country with scattered <br /> trees . They forage over open meadows, grassland and agricultural <br /> fields . Suitable nesting and foraging habitat for red-tailed hawks <br /> exists throughout the proposed project site . <br /> A red-shouldered hawk was observed flying and calling along the <br /> Mokelumne River on the southwestern border of the proposed project <br /> site . Remains of a fledgling red-shouldered hawk were also found by <br /> the river on the proposed project site, which indicates probable <br /> nesting activity.
