nesting and foraging habitat quality, impacts of construction activity on nesting
Swainson's hawks, and report preparation.
California Department of Fish and Game. Wildlife biologist. Conducted a 2-year
study of the biology and habitat use of the Swainson's hawk in the Central Valley.
Major areas of study included determination of home ranges, foraging and nesting
habitat use, food habits, foraging behavior, prey populations, land use and cropping
patterns, and productivity. Techniques used during the study included trapping and
banding of Swainson's hawks, radio-telemetry, small mammal censusing, avian
censusing, habitat evaluation, land use mapping, and food habits analysis.
Conducted a statewide survey of Swainson's hawks to determine the status and
distribution of the species in 1988. Conducted annual breeding surveys of Swainson's
hawks, greater sandhill cranes, bank swallows, golden eagles, and other species
throughout California. Monitored wintering populations of greater sandhill cranes
in the Central Valley. Participated in annual aerial waterfowl surveys in northeastern
California. Developed greater sandhill crane breeding habitat at Butte Valley
Wildlife Area. Authored several progress reports on various species.
Sacramento Municipal Utility District. Consulting wildlife biologist. Assessed the
extent of wintering bald eagle use along upper Cache Creek near Clearlake,
California. Observed and recorded bald eagle flight, feeding, and roosting behavior
in relation to a proposed transmission line corridor through the interior coast range.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS
Wildlife Society
Raptor Research Foundation
Western Field Ornithologists
Society of Mammalogists
