I
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Buckeye Ranch Resource Plan provides detailed information regarding mitigation for
impacts resulting from the proposed development, restoration of previously degraded
habitats, and management of the natural resources, including grasslands, wetlands, oak -
buckeye savanna, riparian, and live oak woodland. This plan addresses the planned 26-lot
y
residential community and limited-use golf course on an 870-acre site, and proposes
leaving the majority of the site in a conservation easement as a nature preserve.
Goals for Restoration and Enhancement of Plant Communities
• To increase the amount of functional seasonal wetlands by approximately 30 acres.
• To create 5 acres of new vernal pool and ephemeral seasonal wetland habitat.
• To increase the amount of permanent marsh by approximately 22 acres.
• To enhance the permanent aquatic habitat of Tracy Lakes by not pumping out the water
and by not farming the lake bottom as has been done since 1940.
• To install water control structures and irrigation systems to insure consistent and
predictable water levels in Tracy Lakes.
• To preserve and ultimately enhance approximately 400 acres of upland grassland
habitats, and enhance the biological productivity of those areas through restoration with
native grasses, and manipulation of these habitats by a combination of burning, grazing
and/or mowing techniques.
• To enhance the natural regeneration of trees and shrubs by the elimination and/or
controlling of cattle grazing.
• To increase the acreage of riparian habitats by approximately 50 acres.
• To restore approximately 20 acres of live oak forest habitat.
Buckeye Ranch Resource Plan (November, 1993)
2
