The project area is bounded generally
by Forest Lake Road on the north and the Mokelumne River on the
south.
The original Draft EIR was published in February, 1992 . During the
public review of the DEIR, it was determined that additional
archaeological work was needed to identify, define, and record all
known archaeological sites within the project area. The firm of
BioSystems Analysis was contracted to conduct the following scope
of work: (1) resurvey specified area, (2) relocate and rerecord
previously identified prehistoric sites, and (3) conduct soil
chemical analysis to determine prehistoric archaeological site
boundaries. Because of the necessity for preparing this additional
archaeological work, the County' s biological consultant was able to
conduct additional field work and was directed to continue field
studies throughout the summer months. Thus, biological field
surveys were conducted over a 10-month period from mid-October 1991
to late August 1992 . Based on this extensive additional biological
field work, the entire biological section of the DEIR has been
revised. In order to satisfy the requirement of Section 15087 of
the CEQA Guidelines, these two (2) revised sections of the DEIR are
being circulated for a 45-day public review and comment period.
These two sections include the following:
(1) A revised biological section which will replace the previous
biological section contained in the DEIR released for review
on February 18, 1992 ; and
