SECTION 7.0 MITIGATION, RESTORATION AND MANAGEMENT
Restoration and Management Goals
1. To preserve and enhance existing native habitats at Buckeye Ranch Preserve, such as
live oak woodland, oak-buckeye savanna, grassland, lake and wetland environments.
2. To maximize fish and wildlife values at the preserve for a diversity of native animal and
plant species, including non-game and special status species, beneficial insects and
butterflys, through enhancement of existing habitats, restoration of degraded sites, and
creation of new habitats with higher functional values.
3. To manage water levels at Tracy Lakes in order to maintain, enhance, and restore biotic
resources.
4. To implement an adaptive management and integrated pest management program for the
golf course area.
Specific Restoration and Management Objectives (Refer to Resource Map)
1 . To increase the amount of functional seasonal wetlands by approximately 30 acres.
2. To create 5 acres of new vernal pool and ephemeral seasonal wetland habitat.
3. To increase the amount of permanent marsh by approximately 22 acres.
4. To enhance the permanent aquatic habitat of Tracy Lakes by not pumping out the water
and farming the lakebed as has been done since 1940.
5. To preserve and ultimately enhance approximately 400 acres of upland grassland
habitats, and enhance the biological productivity of those areas through restoration with
Buckeye Ranch Resource Plan (November, 1993)
133
