Pilot Project Plot Preparation <br /> In each of these three areas, one acre plots will be established and several species and <br /> techniques will be tested. All test areas will be prepared in the following way for seeding. <br /> In September, the soil will be disked and prepared. Three inch irrigation lines will be <br /> installed above ground. In October, the plots will be watered to germinate weed seeds, then <br /> treated with Roundup or another suitable herbicide. In November, native seed mixes will <br /> be drilled into each test area. The plot may require mowing and/or herbicide treatment the <br /> following spring depending upon the amount of residual weed seeds. One year later the <br /> stand will be well established, however the judicious use of pre-emergent herbicide may be <br /> required to control annual weeds.
