planted in that area, another small area near the horse corral will be established in <br /> conjunction with the grassland restoration. <br /> 7.24 The Live Oak Forest <br /> Goals: <br /> • To preserve and protect the live oak forest,especially as it relates to planned golfing <br /> activities, and to mitigate for the areas lost due to cutting for the fairways. <br /> Objectives: <br /> • To protect the remaining forest and allow natural forest ecosystem processes to <br /> continue. <br /> • To mitigate for 13 acres of live oak forest lost, through restoration of approximately 20 <br /> acres of forest in the south-central portion of the property adjacent to the Mokelumne <br /> River. <br /> • To preserve the existing live oak woodlands, especially in relationship to golfing <br /> activities along fairways 8, 9, 12, and 13. <br /> • To establish valley elderberry longhorn beetle sanctuaries within the eastern forest and <br /> within the reforestation area. <br /> • To develop a monitoring program to insure that the above objectives are met within a 5 <br /> year period. <br /> Overview <br /> The mixed oak forest is dominated by interior live oak and valley oak occurring in a 3:1 <br /> ratio. Small numbers of other tree species are found including box elder, ash,cottonwood, <br /> willow, with occasional walnut and ash.
