i
Availability Of Water For Wetlands Development
In addition to local run-off from the Jahant Slough watershed, water will be pumped from
two wells, one on-site and another from an adjacent owner's property . These will be used
during periods of drought and during early fall flood-up of the developed, seasonal
wetlands in South Tracy Lake.
Water Quality For Wetlands Development
As described in the DEIR (1991), water quality at Buckeye Ranch is suitable for wetland
development.
Dike Construction
In order to achieve control and regulate water depths within the planned seasonal marsh
restoration areas, dikes must be placed in two key locations (Figure 10) The exact
specifications of each dike will be dependent upon several design considerations. Both
dikes must withstand annual overtopping by floodwaters coming down Jahant Slough. In
addition they should be drivable (minimum top width of 12 feet). The top of each dike will
be built to 14 feet msl allowing for the planned operational water elevation of 12 feet msl,
and still providing two feet of freeboard. Side slopes of the dikes are expected to be set at
a minimum of 5:1 to minimize erosion during flood events. We anticipate the need for a
spillway design on each dike to allow for overtopping and positive flows of water during
flood events. A typical cross-section of a dike with water control structure installed is
depicted in figure 11.
Buckeye Ranch Resource Plan (November, 1993)
187
