towards the recharging of the aquifer. The Table also indicates that
ander normal , or average conditions , no pumping of ground water , or
river water , will be required for irrigation or maintenance of the lake
Levels .
Under the current operation practices at the project site , Trace C33
Lake is annually pumped dry in early spring to allow the growth of a hay
crop in the lake bottoms . The current practices are actually reducing
the opportunity for ground water recharge on the site , by artificially-
. shortening the period during which water is retained in the lakes .
The project , as currently proposed , will retain the runoff in the
lakes for the maximum period possible , and will only pump from the lakes
,to the Mokelumne River during extremely wet winters . As a result , the
project will actually enhance the recharge capacity of the site , such
that over the life of the project there will in fact be a net gain in
the aquifer water levels as a result of the project .
. . Erosion hazards associated with the major earth moving to
—
enlarge the makes would still exist ; but at a slightly reduced C34
impact level because of the elimination of golf course grading
work. " ( Page 6-4 , draft EIR ) .
The impacts from erosion of graded areas within the golf course are
expected to be negligible and insignificant , as those areas will be
seeded with grasses shortly after completion of the irrigation system
and grading operations .
Geolo9 /Soils
" Without the cenefit of adequate field resting , the installation
and use of individual residential septic systems in easeme;.ts as
presently planned and identified by the applicant could result it,
system failures , localized saturation and bacteriological
contamination problems . C35
Sari Joaquin County ' s ordinance requires that i he lcaci,
for each lot be tested in accordance with the requirements of the
Environmental Health Services Department . All tests must be conducted
by a registered Civil Engineer or registered Environment aI Health
Specialist .
