This committee provides review and advice concerning archaeological sites in Placer County. Since 1989 the committee has met several times to review and comment on the recordation of large numbers of cultural resources by volunteers and archaeologists under contract to Placer County. This program is coordinated through the county Department of Museums and Parks. Since 1990 advice has been provided to several Native American groups concerning protection and preservation of prehistoric cultural resources. Since 1988 served as a member on the advisory committee for the Dye Creek Preserve, in Tehama County, which is managed by the Nature Conservancy. Since 1985, principal consulting anthropologist on a documentary film project on "Ishi" the individual who was billed in 1911 as the last "Wild Indian in America". This project was initially funded for development by the California Council for the Humanities and since 1987 it has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This film is being directed by Jed Riffe and Pamela Roberts through Rattlesnake Productions. Since 1990, consultant on a dramatic film on Ishi which is being produced by Elysian Pictures in Hollywood, California. This picture is being developed for showing in movie theaters and the producer wants to maintain an accurate view of Ishi and what is known about his life in both the Southern Cascades and San Francisco. Also beginning in 1990, consultant on a documentary video on the destruction of prehistoric archaeological sites in America and the repatriation of Native American skeletal remains and associated artifacts that are housed in museum and university collections.
