This committee provides review and advice concerning <br /> archaeological sites in Placer County. Since 1989 the committee has <br /> met several times to review and comment on the recordation of large <br /> numbers of cultural resources by volunteers and archaeologists under <br /> contract to Placer County. This program is coordinated through the <br /> county Department of Museums and Parks. <br /> Since 1990 advice has been provided to several Native American groups <br /> concerning protection and preservation of prehistoric cultural <br /> resources. <br /> Since 1988 served as a member on the advisory committee for the Dye <br /> Creek Preserve, in Tehama County, which is managed by the Nature <br /> Conservancy. <br /> Since 1985, principal consulting anthropologist on a documentary film <br /> project on "Ishi" the individual who was billed in 1911 as the last <br /> "Wild Indian in America". This project was initially funded for <br /> development by the California Council for the Humanities and since <br /> 1987 it has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for <br /> the Humanities. This film is being directed by Jed Riffe and Pamela <br /> Roberts through Rattlesnake Productions. <br /> Since 1990, consultant on a dramatic film on Ishi which is being <br /> produced by Elysian Pictures in Hollywood, California. This picture <br /> is being developed for showing in movie theaters and the producer <br /> wants to maintain an accurate view of Ishi and what is known about his <br /> life in both the Southern Cascades and San Francisco. <br /> Also beginning in 1990, consultant on a documentary video on the <br /> destruction of prehistoric archaeological sites in America and the <br /> repatriation of Native American skeletal remains and associated <br /> artifacts that are housed in museum and university collections. <br /> Member of the Indian Rock Corral Advisory Council.
