Environmental <br /> Mr Harlin Knoll Resources <br /> 14 August 1998 Management <br /> Page 6 <br /> split-spoon sampler and screened with the PID in 6-inch intervals One <br /> of the three 6-inch tubes was then selected for chemical analysis based on <br /> PID readings as well as visual and olfactory observations The ends of <br /> the selected sample were then covered with teflon sheeting, sealed with <br /> tight-fitting plastic endcaps, labeled, and stored in a cooled ice chest <br /> In addition, "headspace" screening samples were collected by placing <br /> soil from one of the remaining brass liners into a sealed ziplock bag The <br /> ziplock bags were placed in the sunlight, allowing organic compounds <br />' within the soil to volatilize The vapors contained in the ziplock bags <br /> were then analyzed with the PID and the reading was recorded on the <br /> boring log <br />' Collection of Grab Ground Water Samples <br /> Grab ground water samples were collected with a 2-inch diameter <br /> disposable bailer and stored in volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials <br /> containing hydrochloric acid as a preservative Six VOA vials were <br /> t collected at each boring, three for TPH-g and BTEX analyses and three <br /> for oxygenate fuel additives analyses Collected ground water samples <br /> were stored in a cooled ice chest <br />' In addition, "headspace" PID readings were obtained b partially filling <br /> P g YP Y <br /> an unpreserved VOA vial with ground water and then sealing and <br />' shaking the vial The vapors contained in the headspace of the vial were <br /> then analyzed with the PID and the reading was recorded on the boring <br />' log No free product or hydrocarbon like sheen was observed in either <br /> the boring B-5 or B-6 samples, however, the boring B-5 ground water <br /> sample did have a "hydrocarbon-like odor" <br /> Selection of Samples for Analysis <br /> All collected soil and ground water samples were labeled with <br />' information pertinent to the project and sample, and placed in a cooled <br /> ice chest The soil samples submitted to the analytical laboratory for <br /> analysis were chosen based on field observations and PID readings of <br /> soil samples and their proximity to and above the water table Soil <br /> I <br />
