CHEMISTRY PROCEDURES
All groundwater samples were collected, transported, and analyzed in general accordance with
F U.S.Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)Document SW-846,'Test Methods for Evaluating
' Solid Waste', 3rd Edition. All samples were submitted to Sequoia Analytical, Redwood City,
California for anaiysi,. Each sample was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) in
accordance with EPA method 3510/8015 modified for diesel, for TPH as gasoline in accordance
with EPA method 5030/8015/8420 modified with distinction on the aromatic hydrocarbons-
abenzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes(BTEX),and lead. The lead analytical results
are reported as milligrams per liter(mg/1) which is equivalent to parts per million (ppm). All
other analytical results are reported in micrograms per liter (ug/1)which is equivalent to parts
per billion (ppb).
E
4.2 ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY RESULTS
The analytical chemisty test results of the groundwater samples are summarized in Table 3.
F_f
The laboratory certificates of analysis are presented in Appendix C.
The analytical Chemistry data indicates that petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline were present
41
in all six groundwater monitoring wells at the site. TPH concentrations as gasoline have
increased in all of the monitoring wells since the last quarterly sampling in December 1990.TPH
as gasoline ranged from 79 ppb in MW-6, to 790 ppb in MW-2. Some aromatic hydrocarbons,
t
ix wells.
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) were present in each of the s
4' Benzene was present only in MW-1 (14 ppb),MW-2(7.9 ppb),MW-3(0.72 ppb),and MW-5(3.0
t Ippb),
it
There were no concentrations of TPH as diesel reported above detection limits in any of the
19 groundwater samples.
4
t
i
i
