Coca-Cola Enterprises-West
USTEC job No. 90054.03
2.3 QUARTERLY GROUNDWATER MONITORING AND SAMPLING
f ,..
y i A quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling program was initiated in December 1990 to
i identify the major organic constituents and their concentrations, and to assess the potential
migration path of these constituents in the groundwater throughout the site. A summary of
historical groundwater elevation measurements is presented in Table 1. A summary of historical
k
^ groundwater analytical test results is presented in Table 2. The analytical chemistry laboratory
reports were presented in the respective quarterly reports.
.a. 2.4 VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT TEST
USTEC conducted four 6 to 10-hour vapor extraction system(VES)pilot tests between November
] and 5, 1990. The VES pilot test was designed to assess the feasibility of a vapor extraction
system. The pilot test results will also be used as an aid to evaluate the radius of influence for
the vapor extraction system design(Section 5.3). The procedures for performing the VES pilot
I w tests were derived from techniques and equipment developed by USTEC.
i -
1 The VES pilot tests were conducted using vapor extraction wells VEW-1, VEW-2,VEW-3, and
VEW-4. The construction details for the vapor extraction wells are discussed in Section 5.3.
Figure 3 shows the location of the vapor extraction wells along with the location of groundwater
monitoring wells MW-1,MW-4,and MW-5, which were used as monitoring points during the
f
vapor extraction pilot test.
The vapor extraction test equipment consisted of a blower and muffler, associated pressure
gauges, and Polyvinyl Chloride(PVC)connections and tubing connected to a portable steel skid.
The skid was connected to the groundwater monitoring well with 2-inch,Schedule 40 PVC pipe
u and couplings. All glues and sealants were allowed to dry and pressure checked before the test
was started.
s -
The vacuum was generated using a 3-horsepower Roton Blower powered by a portable
! generator. A vacuum of about 50 to 65 inches of water was applied to the test well and the soil
7
5
E ,
