1
Coca-Cola Enterprises - West
USTEC Job No. 90054.03
lower sample was used for organic vapor monitoring and sample screening. The procedures
followed for organic vapor monitoring are described in Section 3.1.5.
` 3.1.2 Groundwater Monitorin and Va ar Extraction Test Well
Construction
Borings B-14 through B-17 were completed as vapor extraction test wells VEW-1 through VEW-4,
respectively. Boring B-24 was completed as groundwater monitoring well MW-6, The
installation permits for each well are presented in Appendix E. The typical groundwater
monitoring well construction details are illustrated on Figure 8 and the typical vapor extraction
well construction details are illustrated on Figure 9. A summary of the boring, groundwater
well construction details is presented in Table 3.
monitoring well,and vapor extraction test
The vapoz'extraction and groundwater monitoring wells were installed through 8 5/8 inch inside
por extraction and groundwater
diameter(1.D.)hollow stern augers. The vamonitor wells were
p
constructed of a single string of 4-inch O.D.,Schedule 40, Flush threaded,PVC well screen and
blank casing. To account for the varying lithology, different screened intervals were used in
each VE well. A partial overlap in screening depths was used to insure complete coverage
within each lithologic unit. Screened intervals for VEW-1,VEW-2,VEW-3,and VEW-4 were 25
to 45 feet bgs, 8 to 28 feet bgs, 8 to b8 feet bgs,and 43 to 69 ipet bgs, respectively.
A 30-foot length of PVC well screen with a slot size of 0.010 inches was installed in MW-6 to a
depth of 83 feet. Depending upon the screened interval,8 to 53 feet of blank PVC casing was
installed to bring the wells to exisg surface grade. Following the installation of the slotted and
tin
blank PVC casing, the annulus of each well was packed with Number 2/12 RMC Lonestar silica
i-.; sand from the bottom of the borehole to a height of about 2 feet above the top of the well screen.
i+
:he monitoring well was surged prior to the seal placement to settle the sand pack.
A 2 to 4-foot thick bentonite seal using 1/4-inch bentonite pellets was placed on top of the silica
• sand pack and hydrated with about 10 gallons of potable water. The remaining annular space
was then sealed with a cement grout(eleven sack mix). All groundwater monitoring and vapor
1
4 10
t
5
