Appendix E.1:Data Usability Summary
results for the two PAHs were either non-detect or greater than 10 times the amounts
detected in the blank, so no flags were applied.
• Naphthalene was detected in one method blank between the laboratory MDL and LOQ.
Similar concentrations were detected in associated soil samples SB-38-S-42.5-081125
and SB-35-S-41.5-081124. The laboratory re-extracted the samples outside the holding
time and naphthalene was not detected in the re-extracted method blank. The results
were similar between the two sets of extractions. No data were qualified for the method
blank detection because the second extraction confirmed the first set of results, and the
data reported was not biased by the contamination.
• Phenanthrene was detected between the laboratory MDL and LOQ in the method blank
associated with groundwater sample SB-35-W-34-081124. Phenanthrene was detected in
the sample at a concentration within 5 times the concentration detected in the method
blank. The result was qualified E because the concentrations were similar, and the
sample result may be biased by contamination.
• Potassium was detected in the method blank associated with groundwater sample SB-36-
W-35-081124. The associated sample result was not qualified because the concentration
was above 10 times the amount detected in the method blank.
Field QC Results
Six equipment rinsate blanks, two field blanks, and nine trip blanks were submitted with the
samples. No target compounds were detected in any of the trip blank samples. The equipment
rinsate blanks and field blanks were free of contamination with the following exceptions:
• The following target analytes were detected in equipment rinsate QA_Screen-R-080814:
TPHd(61 gg/L), naphthalene (0.12 gg/L), fluorene (0.012 gg/L), phenanthrene
(0.016 gg/L), benzo(a)pyrene (0.0035 gg/L), and dibenz(a,h)anthracene (0.0074 gg/L).
Naphthalene was qualified E in associated groundwater sample SB-22-W-080813 and
field duplicate SB-22-WD-080813. The other analytes were either non-detect or detected
at concentrations greater than 10 times the amounts detected in the equipment rinsate, and
no other data were qualified.
• Naphthalene was detected above the program reporting limits in QA-Rinsate_Blank-R-
080815, QA-Screen-R-081121, and QA-Screen-R-090305. The compound was also
detected within 10 times the concentration in associated groundwater samples SB-26-W-
82-080815, SB-33-W-36-081121, SB-42-W-090305, and SB-42-WD-090305. The
results in the groundwater samples were qualified E for potential bias from
contamination.
COC Forms
Sample analytical results were evaluated for agreement with the COC form. The evaluation
determined that all samples were received at the laboratory in the appropriate containers and in
good condition with the chain-of-custody form filled out properly. Several COC forms were
submitted with incorrect analyses for trip blanks; however; the laboratory correctly analyzed the
required analyses.
E.1-6
From Science to Solutions
