• 4.0 SITE INVESTIGATION <br /> The objective of this investigation is to determine the nature of petroleum <br /> hydrocarbon impacted soil beneath the eastern portion of the property and to evaluate whether <br /> groundwater has been impacted by dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons Additionally, this work will <br /> assess the specific sources that have contributed to impacted soils Analytical data generated during <br /> this investigation may be used to perform a site-specific health risk assessment(HRA) The results <br /> of this investigation will also be used to evaluate the necessity of and scope of work for possible <br /> future investigations or remedial actions at the site <br /> The site investigation will consist of drilling exploratory soil borings and installing <br /> groundwater monitoring wells The soil borings will be sampled for lithologic and analytical <br /> purposes The groundwater monitoring wells will be installed to evaluate hydrogeologic <br /> characteristics (such as the groundwater depths, flow direction, and gradient) and sampled to assess <br /> the presence of dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons The results of this investigation will be <br /> summarized in a report <br /> Descriptions of the field activities are provided in the following sections <br /> 4.1 Permitting <br /> Permits for soil borings and monitoring wells will be obtained from SJC-EHD prior <br /> to the start of field activities <br /> 4.2 Utility Clearance <br /> The locations of the soil borings and monitoring wells will be marked in the field <br /> prior to conducting a utility clearance The utility clearance will be conducted by an experienced <br /> . underground utility locating company In addition to this private utility locatmg service, <br /> Preliminary Site Investigation Work Plan-Draft June 30, 1998 <br /> Roberts Property(Former Vernalis Pump Station) <br /> Vernalis California <br /> 8 <br />
