September 20, 2010
Note:
A 55 gallon steel drum of jet fuel was observed near the fuel tanks without a label. Per
'facility contact, the drum contains possibly unfiltered fuel from sampling and filter
changes, and is taken by the fire department for their use.
'RESPONSE:
1. Site -staff has determined the current fuel -facility has the "re -filtering" capability
necessary to allow the return of the unfiltered fuel back into the existing 10,000 gallon
tank after it flows through the filtering system. By filtering and returning that fuel back
to the storage tanks, there will no need to store this unfiltered fuel in the future.
2. Existing unfiltered fuel in the 55 gallon drum will be run through the filter and
returned to the existing 10,000 gallon tank.
'2. The empty 55 gallon steel drum formerly containing the unfiltered will then removed
'from the site as it is no longer needed. Removal and proper disposal of the 55 -gallon
steel drum will occur no later than Thursday September 23, 2010.
Note:
Unable to determine the amoUnt of waste generated in 2009 due to a lack of available
disposal records.
RESPONSE:
1. Procedures for the proper management of disposal records has been implemented.
Think Inside the'rriangle"',je&
