K File No. 20-2245-29.E01 " KL El NFEL D E R November 1. 1996 a ATTACHMENT A GENERAL KLEINFELDER FIELD PROTOCOL A-11 FIELD PREPARATION Before performingwork in the field, environmental staff will review iew the scope of work, prepare a health and safety plan, coordinate the work to be done with their supervisor, assemble the necessary sample containers, and check, calibrate and clean equipment to be used in the field. AA=2 SOIL SAMPLING A-2.1 Collection of Soil Samples m the surface soil and and soils for analysis. Samples are collected by advancing the boring to a point immediately above the desired sampling depth and then driving a hand sampler, lined with a brass tube into they_Undia bed soil. The sampler tube is then removed from the bottom of the boring. The ends of the tube are covered with Teflon and sealed with tight fitting plastic caps. Each sample is individually labeled. The label includes Kleinfelder's name, job number, the date and time the sample was collected, the employee number of the individual who performed the sampling, and a unique five-digit sample identification number. A custody seal may be placed on the sample in such a way that any attempt to tamper with the sample is easily visible. A-2.2 Sample Handling After labeling, the sample is immediately stored in an iced cooler for transport to Kleinfelder's office sample control or to the analytical laboratory. A Kleinfelder chain-of-custody form accompanies the cooler. The chain-of-custody form includes Kleinfelder's name, address, and telephone number, the employee number of the individual who performed the sampling, the sample numbers, the date and time the samples were collected, the number of containers each sample occupies, and-the analyses for which the samples are being submitted, if any. When the samples are delivered, the chain-of-custody form is signed by each person who handles the samples, including all Kleinfelder employees and the receiving employee of office sample control or the analytical laboratory. 20-2245-29.E011MR960249 Page A-] 01996, Kleinfelder, Inc.
