K <br /> File No. 20-2245-29.E01 " KL El NFEL D E R <br /> November 1. 1996 <br /> a <br /> ATTACHMENT A <br /> GENERAL KLEINFELDER FIELD PROTOCOL <br /> A-11 FIELD PREPARATION <br /> Before performingwork in the field, environmental staff will review iew the scope of <br /> work, prepare a health and safety plan, coordinate the work to be done with their <br /> supervisor, assemble the necessary sample containers, and check, calibrate and clean <br /> equipment to be used in the field. <br /> AA=2 SOIL SAMPLING <br /> A-2.1 Collection of Soil Samples <br /> m the surface soil and and soils for analysis. <br /> Samples are collected by advancing the boring to a point immediately above the <br /> desired sampling depth and then driving a hand sampler, lined with a brass tube into <br /> they_Undia bed soil. The sampler tube is then removed from the bottom of the <br /> boring. The ends of the tube are covered with Teflon and sealed with tight fitting <br /> plastic caps. <br /> Each sample is individually labeled. The label includes Kleinfelder's name, job <br /> number, the date and time the sample was collected, the employee number of the <br /> individual who performed the sampling, and a unique five-digit sample <br /> identification number. A custody seal may be placed on the sample in such a way <br /> that any attempt to tamper with the sample is easily visible. <br /> A-2.2 Sample Handling <br /> After labeling, the sample is immediately stored in an iced cooler for transport to <br /> Kleinfelder's office sample control or to the analytical laboratory. A Kleinfelder <br /> chain-of-custody form accompanies the cooler. The chain-of-custody form includes <br /> Kleinfelder's name, address, and telephone number, the employee number of the <br /> individual who performed the sampling, the sample numbers, the date and time the <br /> samples were collected, the number of containers each sample occupies, and-the <br /> analyses for which the samples are being submitted, if any. When the samples are <br /> delivered, the chain-of-custody form is signed by each person who handles the <br /> samples, including all Kleinfelder employees and the receiving employee of office <br /> sample control or the analytical laboratory. <br /> 20-2245-29.E011MR960249 Page A-] 01996, Kleinfelder, Inc. <br />
