UniFirst Corporation Asidiaries <br />Safety Compliance Manual Personal Protective Equipment <br />Purpose Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used to protect employees from <br />exposures to chemical, biological, and physical hazards. <br />PPE is only used after engineering and substitution alternatives have been <br />explored. <br />Employer • Do not assign an employee to perform a task that requires PPE if the <br />Responsibilities employee does not have the proper PPE. <br />• Do not assign an employee to perform a task without first providing the <br />training necessary to safely perform the task. <br />• Document all safety training. <br />• Place a copy of the documentation in the Master Safety Training File and a <br />second copy in the appropriate Personnel file. <br />Employee The following are the responsibilities of employees: <br />Responsibilities <br />• Always wear appropriate PPE necessary for the job. <br />• Only use PPE that is in good condition. <br />• Have damaged or worn out PPE replaced before performing the required <br />task. <br />• Clean PPE after using it. <br />• Return PPE to assigned storage area at the end of the workday. <br />Employee Rules • Do not perform the assigned task without the appropriate PPE. <br />• Keep the PPE in good condition. <br />• Let your supervisor know that PPE replacement is necessary as soon as it is <br />possible. <br />• Turn in old PPE to receive a new item. <br />• Each employee is responsible to work safely at all times. <br />Page 2 of 14 <br />
