This waste
shall be separated and protected from sources of ignition or reaction including but not limited to: open flames, smoking,
cutting and welding, hot surfaces, frictional heat, sparks (static, electrical, or mechanical), spontaneous ignition (e.g.,
from heat -producing chemical reactions), and radiant heat. While ignitable or reactive waste is being handled,
Stericycle will prohibit smoking and open flame to specially designated locations. "No Smoking" signs shall be
conspicuously placed wherever there is a hazard from ignitable or reactive waste. Ignitable wastes are packaged and
taken off site the day of the event.
Buffer Zone
The layout of the collection site itself acts as a buffer zone. The entire airport is fenced which restricts access by the
general public or anyone not participating in the HHW event it is located within the secure zone on the airport. North and
South areas of the event have very long driveways. There is also a link fence from the ingress and egress of the site. The
east area is large of open space that separates the event from the traffic on Tracy Blvd. Traffic cones and caution tape
further act to restrict access from any general public. The west side of the event is the airport. Additionally, Traffic
Control Personnel ultimately control access into the main entrance to the collection site.
Traffic Control
See attached site map.
