Each fitting had a capped length
of pipe band clamped to the boot.
C. 8 - Polyethylene 5 gallon buckets with 10 Stud bulkhead penetration
fittings installed at the bottom. Each fitting had a capped length
of pipe band clamped to the boot.
The following tests were conducted. The results relate only to those
Saavles tested.
FLUID COMPATIBILITY TEST:
METHOD
Specimens cut from samples described in Item A were immersed in each of
the fluids specified in Table I for periods of 70 hours. The samples and
fluids were maintained at a temperature of 231 -2°C throughout the exposure.
Following each exposure period, sanples were removed from each fluid and
immediately subjected to tensile testing in accordance with ASTM D412,
Standard Test Methods for Rubber Properties in Tension_ Additionally, the
volume change and material extracted was determined for those specimen that
were immersed in the internal fluids in accordance with ASTM D471, Standard
Test Methods for Rubber Properties-Effects on ,Liquids.
EVALUATION CRITERIA:
The average tensile strength and elongation of the samples that were
immersed in the fluids shall not be less than 60% of the average tenoile
strength and elongation of the samples tested in the as--received condition.
The volume change shall be not less than -It and not more than 40%. The
material extracted shall not be more than 10%. If the results ere found not
to conVly with the requirements, the Simulated Use Resistance To Fluids Test
described below was conducted.
RESULTS
The results are presented in Table II. Based on the results, the
Simulated Use Resistance to Fluids Test was conducted.
0
