When the distance
between secondary containment clam shell flanges falls shorter than the illustrated 2.5"
(Smith Installation Manual 82160, page 23) "Isolators" can be used to maintain a distance
between clamshell flanges to allow for proper backfill support around the piping system.
Isolators can be made out of a simple material such as tire rubber, or a neoprene
material. The isolators should be approximately 3/4" to 1 " in thickness to assure proper
separation. The use of isolators for this purpose will not void any applicable
manufacturer's warranty.
Thank you for your interest and support of Smith Fibercast UA. approved piping systems. If
I can be of any further assistance please contact me at 949.675.1114.
Sincerely,
Christopher J.
