Hammer Lane
Stockton, California
SECOR Project No.: 77CP.60191.00.0002
Dear Ms. Le:
R E C F, 1 Y F, 10
MAR 16 2004
ENVIRONMENT HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
SECOR International Incorporated (SECOR) has prepared this letter, on behalf of ConocoPhillips, to
document the results of soil sampling conducted during dispenser upgrade work at the site
referenced above (Figures 1 and 2).
BACKGROUND
The site is an operating 76 service station and convenience store located at the northwest
intersection of East Hammer Lane and West Lane in Stockton, California. The site currently has a
leaking underground fuel tank (LUFT) case open with San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Division.
DISPENSER REMOVAL ACTIVITIES
On February 19, 2004, SECOR field staff observed the dispenser upgrade by Kern Construction, of
Bakersfield, California. The dispensers and associated lines appeared to be in good condition, with
no holes or cracks noted during removal. Sampling activities were observed and approved by Ms.
Michelle Le from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD).
COMPLIANCE SOIL SAMPLING
Dispensers
On February 19, 2004, soil samples from beneath the dispensers were collected by SECOR field
staff as directed by SJEHD. Three soil samples were collected from beneath the dispensers (D-1
through D-3) and one soil sample was collected in a trench between the northwest dispenser and
dispenser product lines (T-1). Samples D-2, D-3, and T-1 were collected at approximately 3 feet
below grade surface (bgs) in native soil. Sample D-1 was collected at approximately 5' below ground
surface in non-native soil with SJCEHD approval. Soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons calculated as diesel (TPHd) by EPA Method 8015m (samples D-3 & T-1), total
petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as gasoline (TPHg); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes
(BTEX compounds); and fuel oxygenates (methyl tert butyl ether [MtBE], ethyl tert butyl ether [EtBE],
tert butyl alcohol [TBA], tert amyl methyl ether [TAME], di -isopropyl ether [DIPE], 1,2-dichloroeathane
[1,2 -DCA], ethylene dibromide [EDB], and ethanol) by EPA Method 8260B.
