 Secondary Containment System Installation
Secondary Coxtammem,rMings
Available secondary containment fittings are hmem. 90"
e|boxmo. 450 a|boxmo, coup|ings, nipp|es, termination fittings
(with orwith out n/4^NPTUhreodedoud|mt).mndsaddles (belled
or with NFT threaded outlets). Inserts are required on D^
and 4^9O"e|boxm;and tees for Closed /nbersffia/80»nitomd
Systems. Inserts are not required for Open GramfyFlow
Adhesive for Secondary Containment Piping
For petroleum producte, aloohds, and alcohol/gasoline
mnkdunmm. use 8000 or 7000 series adhesive for installing
secondary containment piping systems. When 'wining
secondary containment pipe-to4ittings and 0ttings-to'
fittings, fiberglmwwfiAUwrmmuot be added to the adhesive
tmensure optimum performance o@this type mf bonded
joint Filler is available from FGS Smith Fibercmst. Due
to the quantity of adhesive required for joining secondary
containment fittingm, it is recommended that only 7014 or
@O14and 7O0Qor8O0Skits bmused.
^' `LAYOUTAND PREPARATION
Before installing the secondary containment piping
mystem, review and verify the recommendations for proper
installation set forth previously:
Layout and Preparation (installation Crew Size and
Organization) (pages 2-3)
Piping Layout, Pipe Trenches and Burial (page 5)
Most ofMhwstandard proceduresforinstaUnQasecondary
containment piping system can behandled bvthe same size
crew that would install a eing|o-xmx|| product piping system.
Itieessential that each phase ofaninstallation be evaluated
and the proper number ofworkers beassigned bmassure mn
efficient installation.
All piping should bescarfed before bonding. Couplings
may baneeded for making containment pipe size reductions
urstraight pipe runs. Spigots may beneeded for pipe runs
orfor making mcontainment sump connection.
The ends Vfthe containment pipe that are tobajoined to
secondary containment fittings must bothoroughly scarfed
for aminimum length of3inches (75mm). See page 4for
scarfing bmo|o available or refer to 8u||mUn Non. F6624.
F6825.orF60OOfor complete operating instructions.
Any surface irregularities must be removed. This
procedure is most easily accomplished by using the Model
21DOur2jO2power tool. Preset odthe factory, it can scarf
Wand 4^(75mmand 1OOmm) RED THREAD IIA secondary
containment pipe. (It also b*pmno 2" and 3^(5O mm and 75
mm) REDTHREAD |h4primary pipe.
ade Holder
Scarf O.D.od pipe so that
the clam shell fitting halves
fit together when assembled
by hand.
If there is a gap between the
clam shell fitting halves when
assembled by hand, pipe
must be scarfed more.
If the Model 2100or2102poVmertoo isnot available, the
ends may bescarfed using the FGS Smith Fibercast manual
tapering tool in conjunction with m secondary containment
scarfing adapter kit. This kit consists of mpedm| somMinQ
blade (appnoximebek/4"tlOOmm|onQ).scarfing blade holder,
1/V^4d|enwrench, and 3^mnd4^(75mmand 1OOmm) scarfing
Qmugem, that are required to set the tool tolerances. The
scarfing adapter kit imeasily adapted toFES Sm|thFibercast
Z-8^(5Omn+15Omm) manual tapering tool kit.
Assemble the proper size mandrel and scarfing blade
holder following the procedures in Bulletin No. F8800.
Rotate the tool body mothat the scarfing blade holder is
at 12 o'clock position; this assures the blade will rest on
top of the gauge. Slide the proper size gauge all the way
to the back nfthe mandrel. Insert the mpmda| blade into the
blade holder all the way tothe back o7the tool body. After
positioning the black reference mark onthe gauge under
the blade, hesure the blade makes uniform contact with the
gauge and the blade holder imresting onthe blade.
ire
