RtINICK--IfRNfI
WORKPLAN FOR THE REPAIR OF
TWO LEAKING UNDERGROUND FUEL LINES
At approximately 1:30 P.M on March 10, 1993 Helmick and Lerner Engineering was contacted
by Graphic Contractors regarding a damaged product line at Arco facility # 548 Located at
1612 West Hammer Lane Stockton, California. Upon arriving at the site we were informed
that two product lines were damaged by a drilling rig during drilling activities on March 9th.
Further investigation confirmed that extensive damage had been done to the regular and super
unleaded product lines.
The responsible environmental consultant onsite was Resna Industries from Sacramento. The
senior geologist was John Babbitt. Mr. Babbitt informed us that they were going to collect soil
samples from the trench directly beneath the ruptured lines. At that point we began to remove
the damaged portion of piping. Approximately 3 feet of piping was removed from each line.
Resna then collected 1 soil sample using a slide hammer with a brass liner tube approximately
1.5 feet below the bottom of the trench.
We then replaced the removed portion of piping with 2 couplings and approximately 2 feet of
piping. All piping and fittings were manufactured by Ameron which was consistent with the
existing piping. The piping that was removed was discarded as it was unusable.
All of the glued fittings were heat cured using an electric heat blanket to insure complete
setting of the fiberglass resin.
On March 11, 1993 a precision line test was preformed by Lye Nimmo, Afford A Test, and
passed successfully. A copy of the test results will be submitted to San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division within 30 days.
If you have any further questions regarding this description of work preformed please contact
us.
Sincerely,
HELNIICK & LERNER INC.
J. Brian Gains
Operations Manager
Construction and Hazardous Waste
