C A M B R I A
Dispenser/Piping Removal Date: February 7 and 8, 2001
Dispenser/Piping Trench Soil Sampling Date: February 9, 2001.
Ms. Letitia Briggs
June 26, 2001
Piping and Dispenser Island Compliance Sampling: Cambria performed soil sampling beneath
the former dispenser islands and product piping on February 9, 2001. The sampling was
conducted under the supervision of Senior Registered Environmental Health Inspector Ms. Letitia
Briggs of the SJCEHD. Soil samples D-1 through D-6 were collected from beneath the dispenser
islands at depths ranging from 3.5 ft bgs to 4.5 ft bgs. Soil sample P-1 was collected from beneath
the piping trenches between the dispenser islands and UST at approximately 5 ft bgs.
Sampling Procedures and Handling: All sampling was performed in accordance with Cambria's
Cambria's Standard Piping and Dispenser Removal Sampling Procedures, presented as
Attachment B. The samples were placed into a cooler with ice and delivered under standard
chain -of -custody procedures to a state -certified laboratory.
ANALYTICAL TESTING AND RESULTS
Soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and total
petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) by modified EPA Method 8015, and for benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) by EPA Method
8020. Samples with reported MTBE concentrations were re -analyzed using EPA Method 826013.
Certified laboratory analytical results are presented in Attachment C.
Dispenser Island Sample Analytical Results (DP -1 through DP -6): Benzene was detected in
only one of seven soil samples collected at a concentration of 0.26 mg/kg (D-1-4). TPHg was
detected in two of seven analyzed soil samples with a maximum concentration of 5.5 mg/kg.
TPHd concentrations ranged from below laboratory reporting limits to 1.3 mg/kg in soil sample
D-3-4. A concentration of 5.6 mg/kg MTBE was detected by EPA Method 8260 in soil sample
D-4-3.5. No MTBE was detected in any remaining analyzed soil sample. A concentration of
330 mg/kg Tert-Butanol (TBA) was detected in soil sample D-2-4.5.
Product Piping Sample Analytical Results (P-1): No TPHg, BTEX or MTBE was detected in
soil sample P-1-5. 2,300 mg/kg TBA was detected in soil sample P-1-5.
2
