Generator A -P -E Environmental Set 11-26-14.pdf
Elana,
I spoke to you about 2 weeks ago and earlier about Verizon Telephone Company's plan to replace an existing
500kW standby diesel generator with a new one of identical capacity. Please see the attached architectural
drawings and Plumbing drawings. Attached are PDF files of the drawings for your review and comment. Our
drawings also have been submitted to the City of Manteca. A brief description of our proposed work is below:
1. The existing generator enclosure has a very small day tank that transfers the fuel between the
generator and the existing double wall underground tank. This day tank will also be removed along with
the generator and the enclosure.
2. The existing double wall fuel lines from the underground tank come inside the enclosure in a
vault/trench.
3. We will be constructing an enclosed metal cover at the trench/vault where the existing fuel lines come
through the ground and concrete side wall of the trench/vault to keep rain water out.
4. This vault will have monitoring sensor for fuel leak.
5. New fuel lines will be connected to the (2) existing fuel lines, 1 supply and 1 return, in the vault to be
connected to a new 275 gallon outdoor day tank that would transfer he fuel between the existing
underground double tank and the new generator.
6. The new fuel line which will all be above ground can be single wall black iron pipes, as allowed by code.
However, Verizon will likely decide to install double wall pipes as indicated on the drawings.
7. The Plumbing drawings should indicate our intention to comply with code required fuel leak
monitoring.
8. There is an existing fuel polisher (filter) that has not been in use for many years. This equipment will be
removed and the fuel line between it and the underground fuel tank will be removed. The vault/sump
at the underground tank where this fuel polisher fuel lines pass through to enter the tank, the plumbing
drawing requires the Contractor to plugged or repair it to meet regulatory requirements.
Please call me or email me if you have any questions.
Thank you,
JTC Architects, Inc.
65 N.
