Outline of Daily Safety Briefings <br />• Hardhats will be worn while working around heavy equipment (safety glasses, <br />ear plugs, boots, etc.) will be worn on the job site. <br />• No open flames, cigarettes, etc. will be allowed in the work area. <br />• The bungs on the tanks will be kept closed when removing the tank from the <br />excavation. <br />B.) Tank Excavation Procedures (If applicable): <br />• Before any excavation work begins, ALL required permits shall be obtained. <br />The estimated location of utility installations such as sewer, telephone, fuel, <br />electric, water lines, or any other underground installations that may <br />reasonably be expected to be encountered during excavation will be outlined. <br />U.S.A. Dig will be called 48 hours prior to excavation. <br />• Excavation for the removal of underground tanks must be approached with <br />extreme care to prevent undermining the foundations of existing structures. A <br />minimum distance of five feet to the base of the adjacent structures of <br />property lines is recommended. The total depth of the tank excavation is <br />determined by the tank diameter, bedding thickness, holddown pad if <br />required, depth of cover, and slope of piping. <br />• The slope of the walls of the excavation is determined by soil conditions and <br />depth of excavation. <br />• Handling excavated materials which cannot be immediately removed from the <br />site should be safely stockpiled away from the edge of the excavation keeping <br />work areas clear of stockpiled material. Employees shall be protected from <br />the excavation or other materials or equipment that could pose a hazard by <br />falling or rolling into an excavation. Protection shall be provided by placing <br />and keeping such materials or equipment at least 2 feet from the edge of the <br />excavation or by use of retaining devices that are sufficient to prevent <br />materials or equipment from falling in. <br />
