He/She will determine the <br />proper action to be taken. <br />Explosion: If the LEL reading from the Gastech is over 20% for petroleum <br />hydrocarbons or 10% for oxygen, the tank will not be removed from the <br />excavation. <br />E.) Air/Environmental Monitoring: <br />Because the tank has no history of leakage and no soil contamination is expected, the <br />only air monitoring that will be performed will be performed with the LEL meter. The <br />tank bungs will be kept closed except for the vent lines which will remain open during the <br />vapor freeing process. All tank vapors will be vented to a minimum of 12 feet above <br />grade and 3 feet above the roof of the existing buildings. <br />F.) Confined Space Entry: <br />Employees are prohibited from entering into confined space without a Permit to work in <br />Confined Space. A confined space is defined as those where the ventilation is so poor <br />that dangerous levels of air contamination and/or oxygen deficiency can occur, and it is <br />difficult to get to or remove an injured worker because of the location or size of the <br />openings. Examples of confined spaces are tank cars or trucks storage tanks, sewers, <br />wells and shafts. <br />Those authorized to issue a permit are Tom Balch, Bill Balch and Tom Evernden <br />G.) Decontamination Procedures: <br />Personnel engaged in trenching or excavation of potentially contaminated material will <br />decontaminate by washing personal protective equipment, hands, and face with soap <br />and water as necessary. <br />H.) Securing of the Site: <br />Barricades and caution tape will be placed around the immediate excavation <br />and trenches. The work area will be fenced. <br />All excavated material will be placed on and covered with visqueen. <br />I.) Emergency Contingency Plan: <br />
